Abstract
We predict theoretically that anisotropic metamaterials with arbitrary optical axis can be used to develop a tunable filter in a one dimensional photonic crystal. By means of transfer matrix method, we observe a large peak shift up to 0.2μm with the change of the optical axis. This tunability can be ascribed to the intrinsically anisotropic properties in metamaterials, whose dielectric permittivity can be tailored by varying the orientation of the optical axis. These results may be useful in the optical devices.
