Abstract
Spin and orbital degrees of freedom and Jahn–Teller distortion simultaneously exist in magnetic insulator KCuF3KCuF3. In this paper, we present the strong magnetic field effects on the magnetic, orbital and distortion configurations in the ground state of KCuF3KCuF3. We first obtain the evolution of the spin and orbital order parameters with applied magnetic field B by the cluster self-consistent field approach, a spin-flop or metamagnetism transition is clearly seen around 4 T, and the spins are fully polarized in the magnetic field around 72 T. We propose that such a metamagnetic transition can be measured in future experiment.
