Abstract
The dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) was applied to investigate the damping properties of Mg–Ca binary alloys both at room and elevated temperatures. The results show the as-cast Mg–1 wt%Ca binary alloy exhibits good damping capacities, which could be of a potential candidate for damping magnesium alloys. The Ca has greatly effect on the damping properties of Mg–Ca alloys. In addition, the damping measurement of Mg–1 wt%Ca alloy with increasing temperature has also been carried out. The damping mechanisms were also discussed.
