Abstract
Undoped, Mg doped and Mg, Nd codoped LiNbO3 single crystals were grown by Czochralski technique. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis shows that doping does not change the basic structure of LiNbO3 crystal. Optical transmission study shows the blue shift in the cutoff frequency in Mg doped and Mg, Nd codoped LiNbO3 crystals. Five absorption peaks are observed in Nd:Mg:LiNbO3 crystals corresponding to transitions from 4I9/2 ground state of Nd3+ ions. Crystalline perfection of these crystals examined using high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) technique. The Mg, Nd codoped crystals show better crystalline perfection.
