Abstract
Amorphous (FeAl3)1âxZrx (x=25, 50) alloys have been prepared from elemental powders by mechanical alloying. The as-milled powders were analysed by XRD and DTA. The thermal stability of the as-milled powders increased when Zr increased. The effective activation energies for crystallization were evaluated according to Kissinger's plot. The products of powders annealed at temperature over the crystallization temperature were studied. The composition range of amorphization for (FeAl3)1âxZrx was predicted from the thermodynamic point of view. The agreement between the prediction and experiments is good.
