Abstract
The paper briefly analyzes numerical problems related to the identification of the Preisach function. It will be shown how numerical instabilities encountered in the literature can be removed by means of a genetic algorithm. The proposed approach has been applied to model the behavior of many soft steels and the results show the robustness and efficiency of the algorithm.
