Abstract
A statistical model for diffusion enhancement by solute of either the solvent or the solute in dilute solid solution has been generalized in one single expression. Understanding the concept of the expression and realizing its applicability for either case of enhancement requires a dilute ternary system; the components of this system are A, B and C. The third atomic species, C, can be a tracer, either of the solvent or the solute. It will be assumed that C comprising the ternary system has a negligibly small concentration of the magnitude of a tracer. Diffusion is assumed to occur by a vacancy mechanism.
