Abstract
By using micro-magnetic simulations we demonstrate how the shape of magnetic nano-elements affects the out-of-plane component of the magnetization in magnetic dots and rings. We show that by removing the highly energetic out-of-plane magnetic vortex core we fundamentally alter the magnetic states in nanomagnets. In addition, we explore the nucleation and annihilation of the domain walls as a function of external magnetic field. We demonstrate that the annihilation of the domain walls lead to formation of the vortex state in magnetic ring structures.
