Abstract
The paper reviews recent progress in particle identification methods. We survey the present experience with Cherenkov counters employed for particle identification in various experimental environments and we discuss upgrades of existing devices. We also review particle identification by state-of-the-art time-of-flight detectors and with dE/dxdE/dx measurements.
