Abstract
This talk presents the possibility of a new phase of research and development in view of future RPC applications, with particular attention to the opportunities offered by the CERN Super-LHC and the FAIR facility at GSI. The impacts of the present RPC generation on the fundamental research and the physics targets achievable are also reviewed.
