Abstract
A novel scheme to generate and accelerate a short half-life radioisotope ion beam is described. Its key features are low energy production, backward ablation laser ionization, and fast acceleration using a digital accelerator without the requirement of a large-scale injector. We will have focused on 11C as a driving beam for future cancer therapies, wherein the positioning and targeting of the driving beam can be realized in real time using a fast PET diagnosis system. In addition, the production and acceleration of 18Ne ions as a possible beta-beam for future neutrino factories have been discussed.
