Abstract
In this paper, a novel pulse shape discrimination method in scintillator detectors for simultaneous beta and gamma spectroscopy is presented. This method is based on using wavelets to discriminate between pulse shapes in the frequency (scale) domain rather than in the time domain. The proposed method shows a better discrimination performance compared to other time-domain methods in terms of robustness to noise and reliability. This method is also able to detect pile-up events which could not be detected using other time-domain methods. This method can be easily implemented with FPGA technology and digital signal processors.
