Abstract
We present a novel readout method; a fast two-stage Global Local (GL) charge division method. The new readout method is to utilize two coincident signals to localize position. It can greatly improve a spatial resolution when applies to a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) detector. We have implemented the new readout method in very long microstrip gas counters (MSGCs). Prototype detectors, which have 640.8Â mm of an active length, have been designed, fabricated and evaluated. The principle of the new readout method was confirmed. The spatial resolution was 1.15Â mm with good uniformity and good linearity.
