Abstract
The CMS silicon strip tracker (SST) is a key element for the discovery potential of the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. It is designed to work at a bunch crossing frequency of 40Â MHz in very high particle fluxes and a harsh radiation environment. The CMS tracker is described and the status of the production of silicon detector modules and larger substructures is discussed.
