Abstract
The design constraints and the target performances of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter are reviewed. The construction and installation status is summarized. Some test-beam results, covering a large part of the final detector, are summarized. Some recent updates concerning the use of the electromagnetic calorimeter for particle identification (γ/π0, e/π and jet/π separation) are summarized.
