CsI(Tl) columnar layers were obtained on orienting and non-orienting substrates by physical vapour deposition. Crystal structure, scintillation efficiency and spatial resolution of specimens was examined. Light yield of films on substrates was compared with light yield of CsI(Tl) reference crystal.
