Abstract
After personal recollections from the early days of low-temperature detectors (LTD), we shall give a condensed overview of the milestones and achievements in their main applications. We shall then discuss what possible new directions the research and development of the LTDs could take in the near future. A particular focus is put on the recoil energy domain where massive detectors cannot resolve single events in direct counting mode.
