Abstract
The layered GdxTiSe2 compounds with the Gd content from x=0x=0 up to x=0.33x=0.33 are synthesized by the direct intercalation of Gd into TiSe2 matrix. The Gd intercalation leads to the growth of the in-plane lattice parameter, while the averaged interlayer distance is found to decrease with intercalation. The measurements of the dc magnetic susceptibility and magnetization in steady and pulsed magnetic fields have revealed an antiferromagnetic behavior of GdxTiSe2 (0.1⩽x⩽0.330.1⩽x⩽0.33) compounds below TN≈9 KTN≈9 K. The effective magnetic moment per Gd ion in GdxTiSe2 is observed to be close to μeffμeff for the free Gd3+ ion.
