Abstract
We show that an optimal dense coding protocol DD can be constructed with genuine multipartite entangled states, one-dimensional cluster states. We also give a teleportation scheme TT by using the one-dimensional cluster states. Both DD and TT reveal some intrinsic entanglement properties of the one-dimensional cluster states, and indicate that we may in a sense extract the amount of entanglement of n2 Bell states (or n−32 Bell states plus a tripartite GHZ state) from an n-particle one-dimensional cluster state. Our schemes can also be used to implement controlled quantum communication.
