Abstract

The nonlinear refraction of chlorophosphonazo I (CPA I) was investigated using the Z-scan technique with a pulse Nd:YAG laser and a cw HeNe laser as excitation sources. Positive and large nonlinear refractive index attributed to resonant electronic nonlinear effect was observed under pulse 532 nm excitation. Under cw HeNe 633 nm excitation, the origin of optical nonlinearity was discussed in term of laser heating effect. The experimental results show that CPA I will have potential applications in nonlinear optical devices.
