Abstract
We propose a unified linear optical scheme for implementing the 1→21→2 optimal universal and ancilla-free 1→31→3 optimal phase-covariant quantum cloning machines of the polarization state of the single photon. The scheme requires linear optical elements and three-photon coincidence detection, and is feasible with current experimental technology.
