Abstract
⺠The evolution equations describing the wave propagation in the nonlinear oppositely-directed coupler are considered. ⺠Exact solutions in the form of periodical and solitary waves for nonlinear waves are given. ⺠We also have found a new type of nonlinear wave for optics of artificial materials that is compacton.
