Abstract

The scattering of a partially coherent plane-wave pulse on a deterministic sphere is investigated. Analytical expression for the mutual coherence function of the scattered field is derived. It is shown that we can obtain the information of the sphereʼs position and its effective radius by measuring the time delay and pulse duration of the scattered field. The dependence of the pulse duration and temporal coherence length of the scattered field on the scattering angle and the parameters of the incident pulse is also illustrated numerically.
