Abstract
Emission of light by a charged particle tunneling through a potential barrier is suggested as a physical clock for tunneling time. STM light emission observed from vacuum and dielectric-filled tunneling gaps is considered as an example. If tunneling looks like a superluminal event in the medium, it is supposed to lead to Cherenkov-like radiation.
