Abstract
We calculate analytically the position-momentum uncertainty product for a freely evolving wave packet produced by a unidirectional half-cycle pulse (HCP) or a pair of HCP's in a one-dimensional (1D) hydrogen atom. Our analytical treatment is shown to be a convenient and competitive alternative to fully numerical large-basis calculations.
