Abstract
The first in-grid demonstration of a high-temperature superconducting (HTS) cable system in Japan was carried out to verify its reliability and stable operation. The cable design was completed in association with DI-BSCCO and a pre-performance test of a 30- m HTS cable system was carried out to check its operation. A HTS cable was manufactured for demonstration purposes and passed all shipping tests. The installation of the cable was successful, and system construction has now been completed. After confirmation of the soundness of the cable system, it was connected to a live grid and the in-grid demonstration commenced in October 2012.
