Abstract
This review describes 40 years of experience gained at Risø National Laboratory in the development of facilities for irradiation, thermal/optical stimulation and luminescence signal detection. These facilities have mainly been used in luminescence dating and nuclear accident dosimetry. We focus especially on methods for light stimulation and irradiation, and developments of new portable TL/OSL readers for determining doses directly in the field on both Earth and the planet Mars.
