Abstract
Track structure calculations have been performed in order to predict the neutron dose equivalent response of Al2O3:C optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) materials mixed with neutron converters. The results of the calculations were compared to measurements available in the literature. The calculations yield neutron responses which agree within 35% with the results of the measurements for grain diameters of 10 μm–20 μm, both for Al2O3:C mixed with 6LiF and for Al2O3:C mixed with polyethylene. For increasing grain sizes of Al2O3:C material – 10 μm to 100 μm – the calculations predict a decrease of the neutron response by about a factor of three.
