Abstract
The detection of concealed contraband items is a difficult challenge in most contexts. In many cases the contraband may constitute only a very small fraction of the total mass of the object being interrogated and screening often needs to be carried out rapidly. We review neutron-based techniques that have been developed and recently tested in the field, and outline prospects for the adoption of neutron-based screening technologies by industry.
