Abstract
X-ray luminescence of the new spherical core-shell structured phosphors on the basis of SiO2 spherical particles coated with the nanocrystalline shells of europium-doped (1–10 at. %) lutetium oxide Lu2O3 or lutetium pyrosilicate Lu2Si2O7 have been studied. It has been shown that emission intensity of the heterostructures obtained strongly depends on the type and thickness of the nanocrystalline shell and dopant concentration. An increase in X-ray luminescence of more than 60% has been achieved for SiO2/Lu2O3:Eu3+ heterostructures coated with protective Lu2O3 shell compared to the unprotected SiO2/Lu2O3:Eu3+ core-shell phosphors.
