Abstract
We have analyzed vibrations generated in an orthogonal cutting process. Using a simple single degree of freedom model with friction we have observed the chatter vibrations. In the limit of a high rotational velocity the rough cutting surface combined with a friction phenomenon caused effective damping in the system. For simplicity, we used a harmonic function to describe the profile of the initial surface.
