Abstract
⺠Homoclinic bifurcation for a nonlinear impact inverted pendulum is studied. ⺠The unperturbed system has a homoclinc orbit tangent to the wall. ⺠The Melnikov method is used to detect Smale Horseshoe chaos. ⺠An impact oscillator of Duffing type is studied in detail.
