Existence of invariant tori in three dimensional maps with degeneracy

► We prove persistence of two-dimensional tori in three dimensional maps with degeneracy. ► Such degenerate maps arise upon generic perturbation of volume preserving vector fields. ► Our persistence result is KAM-type but the proof technique is non-standard. ► Our result has implications for the existence of barriers to transport in fluid flows.
