Abstract
⺠We study the simplest decomposition of a turbulent field. ⺠The large scale filtering operator is given by the two-point average in space. ⺠The associated fluctuation is given by the two-point difference. ⺠The large and small scales so defined are strictly related. ⺠They represents the simplest LES formulation.
