Abstract
The purpose of this article is to advance the following proposition: Corresponding to a class of physical systems that are subject to experimental investigation and that admit a common physical theory is a so-called CB-effect algebra which, in a natural way, hosts the main ingredients of the physical theory, namely observables, states, and symmetries.
