Abstract
⺠We consider the Gross-Pitaevskii equation as a model for the Bose-Einstein condensate. ⺠We prove the orbital stability of ground states and other mathematical properties. ⺠We present a new method for obtaining approximations for relevant physical magnitudes. ⺠We compare our approximations with numerical results reported in references.
