Abstract
⺠Elastic-wave scattering attenuation due to inclusions is estimated by two theories. ⺠Inclusions are assumed to have low contrast and to be sparsely distributed. ⺠The Foldy approximation theory (FAT) is well established in this case. ⺠The Born approximation theory (BAT) agrees with the FAT under some condition. ⺠Validity condition of the BAT is quantitatively clarified.
