Abstract
► Elastic-wave scattering attenuation due to inclusions is estimated by two theories. ► Inclusions are assumed to have low contrast and to be sparsely distributed. ► The Foldy approximation theory (FAT) is well established in this case. ► The Born approximation theory (BAT) agrees with the FAT under some condition. ► Validity condition of the BAT is quantitatively clarified.
