Abstract
A 1D model problem of wide-band pulse reflection from a plasma layer with linearly growing electron density is considered. Exact, analytical expression is found, describing the plasma response to the Dirac delta excitation. Both short and long times in the reflected pulse are separately considered. This approach is extended to arbitrary electron density profiles and its relation to traditional vertical ionospheric sounding techniques is discussed.
