Abstract
►Hepcidin and ceruloplasmin were competitors affecting ferroportin internalization. ►Ceruloplasmin stabilized ferroportin under low hepcidin conditions. ►Ferroxidase activity played an important role in the stability of ferroportin. ►Mutant ceruloplasmin with low ferroxidase activity impaired ferroportin stability. ►Serum hepcidin levels and hepatic ferroportin were decreased in aceruloplasminemia.
