Abstract
⺠Chlorine causes postexposure acute lung injury (ALI) and airway hyperreactivity. ⺠Intraperitoneal or intramuscular nitrite therapy attenuates Cl2 gas-induced ALI but with distinct dose dependencies. ⺠The route of nitrite administration affects the protective mechanisms against ALI.
