Abstract
Obesity is an expanding public health problem, creating a global epidemic. Obesity is associated with many comorbid conditions, including hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemias, sleep apnea, some cancers, and major cardiovascular disease. Through its effects on various cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular structure and function, obesity has a major impact on cardiovascular disease, including heart failure, coronary heart disease, sudden death and atrial fibrillation, and is associated with an increase in total mortality.
