Abstract
The classic paradigm of toxicology formulated by Paracelsus can be summarized in the phrase “The dose makes the poison”. The mode of action of endocrine disruptors (EDs) is part of a new paradigm because of the following characteristics: age-related exposure, elapsed time between exposure and its effects, interaction between chemicals, dynamics of dose response and long-term latent effects. Regulations for endocrine disrupters should now be based on this new paradigm.
