Abstract

•The solubility of ODA was obtained in six selected solvents from 283.15 K to 323.15 K.•The experimental data were well correlated with four thermodynamic models.•The molecular modeling studies were used to understand the behavior of solubility.•The dissolution enthalpy, entropy and the molar Gibbs energy were predicted.

A gravimetric method was used to measure the solubility data of 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA) in pure DMSO, DMAC, DMF, EGME, methanol and ethanol at temperatures ranging from 283.15 K to 323.15 K. The measured solubility data were well correlated by the modified Apelblat equation, λh equation, van’t Hoff equation and Wilson model. The modified Apelblat equation shows the best agreement in general. The molecular modeling studies were carried out to give some reasonable explanation for the difference of solubility in various solvents. Finally, the dissolution enthalpy, the dissolution entropy and the molar Gibbs energy were predicted.
