Abstract

Equilibrium conditions of clathrate hydrates formed from xenon and aqueous solutions of acetone, 1,4-dioxane and 1,3-dioxolane were experimentally measured in temperatures between 273.6 K and 295.7 K and pressures up to 1.0 MPa using an isochoric method. The concentrations of the chemicals were investigated up to a 0.50 mass fraction. The experimental results showed that adding the chemicals to water can promote and inhibit xenon hydrate formation which depends on the concentration in solution, and can cause a structural transition of the hydrate from structure I to structure II.

► Phase equilibria of hydrates formed from xenon and aqueous solution of acetone, 1,4-dioxane and 1,3-dixolane were experimentally measured. ► The promotion or inhibition effects of the chemicals on xenon hydrate formation depend on the concentration in solution. ► The hydrate containing the chemicals can be a structure II hydrate at concentrations beyond a 0.02 mole fraction.
