Abstract

A corresponding-states group-contribution method is proposed to estimate the surface tension of ionic liquids covering wide ranges of temperature (268.29–533.20 K) and surface tension (15.50–76.20 mN/m) based on experimental data collected from literatures. A good agreement between the predicted and experimental data from literature was obtained for total 1224 data points of 105 ionic liquids with an average absolute deviation (AAD) of 4.95%. The corresponding-states group-contribution method developed in this paper offers a simple but reliable approach for estimating surface tension of new ionic liquids in wide ranges of temperature at atmospheric pressure.

► The surface tension of ionic liquids were estimated for wide ranges of temperature. ► A corresponding-states group-contribution method was proposed. ► An AAD of 4.95% was obtained between the predicted results and experimental data.
