Abstract

•A ternary system water + tetradecane + propylene glycol n-propyl ether was chosen.•The fish-shaped phase diagram of the ternary system was reported.•The upper and lower critical solution temperatures of the system were, respectively, 300.90 and 280.00 K.•LLE data for this ternary system were determined at T = 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K under atmospheric pressure.•The NRTL model was applied to correlate the experimental data.

Fish-shaped phase diagram at a fixed water/tetradecane mass ratio (1/1) and three triangle phase diagrams at T = (298.15, 308.15, and 318.15) K of the ternary (water + tetradecane + 1-methyl-2-propoxyethoxy-2-propanol) were performed under atmospheric pressure. The upper and lower critical solution temperatures of the system were (300.90 and 280.00) K, respectively, according to the fish-shaped phase diagram. The experimental results of the ternary system were satisfactorily correlated by the NRTL equation.
