Abstract

The concentration dependent static dielectric constant, high frequency limit dielectric constant, excess dielectric constant and the effective Kirkwood correlation factor of the binary mixtures of glycerol with formamide, N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, ethanolamine and N,N-dimethylaminoethanol have been determined at 30 °C. The values of these functions emphasize mainly on the hydrogen bonding interactions between the unlike molecules in glycerol-amides and glycerol-amines mixtures, in which their interaction strength and type of dipolar ordering depends on the extent of substitution of the amides/amines. The pronounced deviation in excess dielectric constant values around 0.5 mole fraction concentration of the mixture constituents confirm the formation of a stable adduct of stoichiometric ratio 1:1 in the glycerol mixed amides/amines systems.
