Abstract

The solubility of dilute SO2 in Mg(OH)2 slurry, from mixtures of SO2 and N2, was measured for large temperature variation, SO2 partial pressure range and high concentration of Mg(OH)2 slurry. Measurements were made by a saturation method using a laboratory scale bubble column. The experimental results of SO2 absorbed, total amount of MgSO3 formed and enhancement factor were also presented in this paper. The equation of SO2 solubility to correlate experimental data was found as a function of temperature, SO2 partial pressure and Mg(OH)2 slurry concentration. The solubility function has a second order dependence on the system temperature, SO2 partial pressure and initial Mg(OH)2 slurry concentration. Good agreement was also obtained between the measured data and the data obtained from correlation. Good agreement is also obtained between the experimental data of the present study and predictions of the solubility model.
