Laser and other treatment options in the therapy of infantile capillary eyelid and periorbital hemangiomas: An overview

Hemangiomas in infancy generally require a multidisciplinary approach. As a result of their natural course, usually with spontaneous involution, a “watch-and-wait” strategy often seems to be sufficient. Nevertheless, in periorbital hemangiomas not only cosmetic but also functional aspects may require an early intervention. There are many treatment options such as steroids, surgery, cryotherapy, magnesium seeds and laser. The present paper focuses on the different types of laser used in the treatment of infantile capillary eyelid and periorbital hemangiomas.

ZusammenfassungDie Behandlung kindlicher Hämangiome erfordert in der Regel eine multidisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit. Oft ist eine abwartende, beobachtende Haltung ausreichend, entsprechend dem natürlichen Verlauf mit meist spontaner Regression. Nichts desto trotz können kosmetische und vor allem funktionelle Einschränkungen dennoch eine frühzeitige Intervention erforderlich machen. Mögliche Therapieoptionen sind die lokale oder systemische Gabe von Steroiden, Kryotherapie, Magnesiumspickung und Laserbehandlung. Der vorliegende Artikel stellt insbesondere die verschiedenen Lasertypen und deren Anwendungsbereiche in der Behandlung von Augenlid- und periorbitalen Hämangiomen vor.
