Abstract
The chemokine system is crucially involved in the progression of cardiovascular disease by orchestrating the influx of inflammatory cells into atherosclerotic lesions. This review highlights the currently established knowledge about the role of the chemokine system in plaque progression and the potential therapeutic approaches and available compounds currently investigated for the treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
